Create Heros and let your imagination go nuts!

CREATE YOUR OWN HERO!

Let your imagination go nuts! Your hero can have unlimited powers or be a very "average" guy who just wants to fight evil! What ever you do think about what makes and interesting hero. Has your hero lived for a long time? If he has he could be super smart because he has had time to gather knowledge. Does your hero have a weakness? perhaps something others can relate to. That makes for a more complex hero but it also makes your hero some one others can relate to. Then write your in your bad guy. Why is your super villain a threat?

Do some research. You see if you have a mad scientist as a bad guy and you don't know anything about science, you better get on the ball and do some reading. What ever you do make both the illustration and the personality traits complex and interesting. Give your hero flaws...flaws that any one who reads about your hero could relate to.

Want to hear something dangerous? Make a bad guy that people can relate to. That also makes for a more complex story. Get attached to the bad guy before you know he is bad. Vulnerability makes for fine nemesis. OOOOOh this is gonna be fun! I am going to have to get to the drawing board tonight. Heck I drew this yesterday because developing a new Hero has been on my mind.

TJ Walkup Art Mentor Program Pen & Ink

PEN AND INK!

Ok, you can use a computer to make really smooth looking colorful cartoons or you can learn the old school way. The above cartoon was done very old school.

1) First I made a quick sketch of these love birds in pencil.

2) Then I inked it (I use Higgins Black Magic Waterproof Ink, No. 44011 (#4465) )

3) Ink with a Hunts "Mapping" nib set. I credit this set with having the most flexible nibs.

4) After all the ink is dry to the paper (may take a few moments) I run a soft white or a "Kneadable" eraser over the work.

5) Scan it, and put it on the blog.

6) As a finisher you can take the jpeg you saved into a cartooning program or into Word and put text next to it. It will be ready to add to your arsenal of cartoons to submit for publication. (The Ultimate Goal)

ADVANTAGES
The advantage of the traditional methods is that you can see the artist's hand and you can do it anywhere. You can use any kind of cheap pens like Sharpie markers or Uniball. These materials are easy to carry anywhere. But if you only use a computer to draw, you are stuck lugging that around everywhere. If you use a waterproof ink then you can go over it later with light watercolor and your stuff will be a smashing hit!

Good luck and keep drawing!

ART For Anyone!

ART MENTOR PROGRAM

The intention is to give new artists young or old some exercises and mentoring in visual art. I have been published since I was twenty and I love to see people explore their artistic side. Every one has one. I also have a belief that I can teach almost anyone to draw. Now I didn’t say I could make you a master. But I believe I can make you more creative and help change your thinking about the process of creativity.

Join me in the life long journey to better discover your creativity.

My instruction is discerning, but not judgmental. You may find your self on your way to your next career!

Thanks for dropping in!

TJ
